Fire heavily damages home near Murrayville

Fire heavily damaged a modular home Friday at 2208 Nortonville Road, about 5 miles east of Murrayville.

Murrayville and Woodson firefighters were called about 6:30 p.m. Friday to the home of Ray Leetham.

“The residents were home when smoke detectors alerted them,” Murrayville Fire Chief John Sonneborn said. “They walked through the house, realized it was filling with smoke and then got out.”

Sonneborn said the fire appears to have started in the north end of the house.

“We contained the fire to that end of the house, but part of the roof burned through and collapsed,” he said.

An electrical malfunction is suspected, Sonneborn said.

Franklin firefighters assisted. Murrayville Fire Department was on the scene for about three hours.

Couple arrested after daughter was injured

An injury to a young girl led Morgan County sheriff’s deputies to arrest the child’s parents Monday on a charge of endangering the life/health of a child.

Adam J. Lacy, 27, and Kimber M. Meyer, 28, both of 13 Shafer Road, Meredosia, were booked into the Morgan County Jail about 5:15 p.m. Monday on that charge. They have since posted bail and been released.

Chief Deputy Mike Carmody said sheriff’s deputies received a call about 10:30 p.m. Thursday from Passavant Area Hospital that a girl younger than 5 was being treated at the hospital for a non-life-threatening injury. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services also was contacted about the situation.

Carmody said an investigation by the sheriff’s department and DCFS staff “yielded information that the child was being exposed to an environment where drugs were being used and it was necessary to remove her from that environment. We believe that currently the child is being cared for by family members.”
