DNA links skull to torso found in river

A skull found in the Illinois River along Kingston Mines in June has been linked by DNA to a torso found in the same river in Schuyler County.

Illinois State Police linked the two body parts through testing but has yet to identify the person, the Peoria Journal Star reported. Police determined the skull had suffered trauma but were unsure if that was the cause of death.

A fisherman found the torso in November near the juncture of Sugar Creek. In February, the Schuyler County sheriff indicated police had no leads as to an identity or a cause of death, but the coroner said the death was not believed to be accidental.

Illinois State Police and members of the Schuyler and Peoria counties sheriff’s departments will meet next week to continue the investigation.
