ARRESTS, CITATIONS

• A 14-year-old girl was arrested about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday on battery and theft charges.

• A 16-year-old boy was arrested about 11:20 p.m. Tuesday on charges of battery, theft, resisting or obstructing a peace officer and violating curfew.

• A 17-year-old boy was cited on a charge of failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident after his car went out of control and crashed through a wooden gate about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 1800 block of Old Airport Road.

• Brian L. King, 47, of 112 E. Vaniter St., Woodson, was booked into the Morgan County Jail about 2:34 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of driving while his license is revoked or suspended.

• Felipe Perez Bonilla, 48, of 910 Philips Ferry Drive, Bluffs, was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 5:44 p.m. Wednesday on charges of driving while his licenses is revoked or suspended.

ACCIDENTS

• Police are investigating the theft of a sport utility vehicle that struck a parked vehicle on West Chambers Street.

Police were called at 9:37 p.m. Wednesday after the SUV hit the other vehicle and left the scene. Police found the SUV abandoned near South West Street and West Beecher Avenue.

ARRESTS, CITATIONS

• Kyli M. Schofield, 23, of 1003 King St. was arrested about 10:10 a.m. Thursday on a charge of retail theft.

• Pamela S. Morton, 36, of 403 E. Oak St. was arrested about 10:10 a.m. Thursday on a charge of retail theft.

• James C. Peek, 24, of 210 West St., Franklin, was lodged in the Morgan County Jail at 9:36 p.m. Thursday on a domestic battery charge.

ACCIDENTS

• Vantikah A. Guider, 19, of Jacksonville was cited on a charge of improper lane use after a two-vehicle accident about 7:35 p.m. Thursday at North Westgate Avenue and West Walnut Street.

Police said Guider’s northbound vehicle and another northbound vehicle being driven by a 16-year-old girl collided.

ARRESTS, CITATIONS

• Kelsi M. Kirbach, 24, of 820 Beesley Ave. was arrested about 9:30 p.m. Thursday on a Morgan County warrant accusing her of violating probation on a retail theft charge.

• Patricia J. Scranton, 43, of 702 S. East St. was arrested about 1:40 a.m. Friday on a domestic battery charge.

State police

ACCIDENTS

• A Jacksonville man was injured about 8:40 a.m. Friday in a two-vehicle accident on Illinois Route 125 about 1 mile west of Farmingdale Road.

Guylain Makwenda, 44, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to state police.

State police said a vehicle being driven by Steven Thomas, 54, of Chicago was sitting on the highway’s shoulder with a flat tire when Makwenda’s eastbound vehicle crossed the centerline and struck Thomas’ vehicle head-on.

OTHER REPORTS

• Several park benches in Central Park Plaza were vandalized with graffiti overnight Thursday, according to a report filed about 10:25 a.m. Friday.

• A trailer was damaged overnight Thursday while it was parked on the north side of the downtown square, according to a report filed about 10:14 a.m. Friday.

• Dustin P. Murphy, 27, of 1042 N. Main St. was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 12:40 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of controlled substances.

• Dylan P. Willrett, 25, of 363 E. Marnico Road was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 1:07 a.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of controlled substances and on a warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court on a charge of contempt of court.

BURGLARIES, THEFTS

• Someone stole a cell phone from a business in the 200 block of East Morton Avenue, according to a report filed at 12:58 a.m. Saturday.

• A cell phone was taken overnight Thursday from a home in the 600 block of South Fayette Street.

• Travis J. Buss, 22, of 42 Hatfield Road, Meredosia, was lodged in the Morgan County Jail at 10:45 p.m. Friday on charges of driving while license revoked or suspended, illegal transportation of alcohol, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

• Kimberly I. Bowen, 28, of 317 Madison St. was arrested at 4:20 p.m. Sunday on charges of aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.

She was accused of chasing a person while holding knives during an argument and damaging the person’s vehicle with the knives.

• Steven D. Cunningham, 50, of 741 N. Main St. was arrested at 2:18 p.m. Sunday on a charge of disorderly conduct.

He was accused of approaching a group of people involved in an argument in the 200 block of West Beecher Avenue with a BB pistol in his hand.

• Deandre J. Tracy, 33, of 1055 Doolin Ave. was arrested at 12:05 p.m. Sunday on charges of theft and residential burglary.

He was accused of taking items that did not belong to him from a house in the 400 block of South Kosciusko St.

• A 15-year-old boy was arrested at 8:25 a.m. Sunday on a charge of criminal damage to property.

He was accused of throwing a rock or brick at a trailer Friday and causing damage.

• Chad E. Ottwell, 24, of Jerseyville was lodged in the Greene County Jail at 7:16 p.m. Friday on a Calhoun County arrest warrant accusing him of deceptive practice.

ACCIDENTS

• A 14-year-old boy was injured when his bicycle and a vehicle being driven by Teresa J. Rock Dodds, 45, of South Jacksonville collided about 6:40 p.m. Monday in the 200 block of West Morton Avenue.

A parent of the teen declined medical treatment.

• Cory L. Baker, 20, of Jacksonville was cited for improper lane use after his vehicle hit a parked car in the 700 block of West Lafayette Avenue about 11:10 p.m. Monday.

• Tyler J. Fanning, 21, of 403 Sheppard St., Woodson, was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 7:07 p.m. Monday on charges of speeding and driving while license is revoked or suspended.

Clea F. Taylor, 83, of rural Concord was injured about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in this two-vehicle accident at Westgate Avenue and Mound Road. Taylor was taken to Passavant Area Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police said Taylor’s vehicle and a vehicle being driven by Effie N. Hunt, 95, of Jacksonville collided at the intersection.

ARRESTS, CITATIONS

• Samantha S. Sampson, 48, of 452 Northwood Lane was arrested at 12:54 a.m. Sunday after a traffic stop at Westfair and Grand avenues.

Police said she was charged with possession of a controlled substance after prescription medication not prescribed to her was found inside the car she was driving. She also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after police said a glass pipe commonly used for smoking methamphetamine was found in the car.

VANDALISM

• A window was damaged on one of the buildings at the Jacksonville Developmental Center on South Main Street, according to a report filed at 8:11 p.m. Saturday.

OTHER REPORTS

• A person who delivered food to a West College Avenue address reported being given a counterfeit $100 bill, according to a report filed at 8:49 p.m. Saturday.

• A vehicle driven by Cheryl A. Carriger, 60, of Murrayville struck a vehicle driven by Jason W. Craig, 25, of Murrayville at 4:54 p.m. Monday along Route 67. Both drivers were transported to Passavant Area Hospital by EMS to be treated for injuries. Carriger was cited for disobeying a yield sign.

• Joseph M. Wicks, 39, of 800 Illinois Ave. was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 11:18 p.m. Wednesday on charges of driving while license is revoked or suspended and aggravated battery. He is accused of hitting a woman with his car, causing her to suffer a hand injury, about 9:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of North East Street.

• Jereme J. Halteman, 35, of 32 Westfair Drive was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday on a charge of domestic battery.

More vehicle crimes overnight Thursday

There were more than five reported vehicle-related crimes in Jacksonville overnight Thursday with three vehicles stolen and five cars being entered, items taken or gone through.

Three vehicles were taken overnight Thursday from the 1100 block of South Clay Street and Eisenhower Court.

Another vehicle, taken from Hazelcrest Court between 8:30 p.m. Thursday and 9:30 a.m. Friday, was found on Interstate 72 near Springfield.

The five reported to have been broken into were on East Superior Avenue and Eisenhower Drive.

Arrests made for JDC vandalism

Two 12-year-old boys were arrested on charges of criminal damage to property about 4:58 p.m. Friday in connection with recent damage to building on the grounds of the Jacksonville Developmental Center.

The two boys were arrested in connection with the windows that were broken July 4 on the JDC grounds.

• Jonathan M. Weber, 30, of 208 Ebony St., Murrayville, was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 1:47 a.m. Friday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of another person’s credit card.

• Taylor D. Sims, 24, of Jacksonville was cited for failing to yield after a two-car accident about 7:45 p.m. Thursday at West Lafayette and North Webster avenues.

Police said Sims’ eastbound vehicle and a southbound vehicle being driven by Elizabeth A. Bell, 42, of Jacksonville collided.

• Howard S. Mitchell, 39, of 623 N. Clay Ave. was arrested about 9 p.m. Thursday on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting a peace officer.

• Jatre P. Harris, 24, of 1545 Gravel Springs Road was arrested about 10:50 p.m. Thursday on a charge of unlawful possession of fireworks.

• Someone stole a purse from a vehicle’s trunk between 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Thursday on Shenandoah Avenue.

• Someone entered a vehicle overnight Thursday in the 200 block of East Superior Avenue, but nothing was reported missing.

• Jennifer R. Smith, 39, of 56 Johnson St. was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 12:08 a.m. Friday on a charge of criminal trespass to land.

ACCIDENTS

A Monmouth man is facing charges of aggravated battery, reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries after a June 22 accident in which a pedestrian was injured.

Christian J. Sanchez Marquez, 23, of Monmouth is accused of striking the pedestrian on Jones Drive at Roy Roberts Parkway and then leaving the scene.

Police said the pedestrian was trying to speak to Marquez about reckless driving in Roy Roberts Park when Marquez reportedly swerved to hit him. Marquez said he swerved in a failed attempt to avoid hitting the pedestrian after the man stepped into the road.

• Juan E. Luna, 24, of Chebanse was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 1:48 a.m. Monday on a charge of obstructing identification after police say he refused to give authorities his name.

Wrights woman remains in fair condition after crash

The condition of an 85-year-old Wrights woman who was seriously injured in a crash Monday on U.S. 67 has been upgraded.

Gloria J. Latham, 85, remained in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield on Tuesday, where her condition was listed as fair.

She was flown to the hospital after being partially ejected from her van and having to be extricated after her vehicle and a pickup truck pulling a trailer collided on U.S. 67 at Berdan Road.

• Anna K. Stewart, 18, of Jacksonville was cited for failing to yield after a two-vehicle accident about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at North Sandy Street and West Douglas Avenue.

Police said Stewart was driving south on North Sandy Street when her vehicle and an eastbound vehicle being driven by John E. Greeling, 71, of rural Jacksonville collided.

• Tyler J. Roberson, 21, of Hillsboro was booked into the Morgan County Jail at 2:32 a.m. Monday on a charge of criminal trespass to state land after police said he was in Turner High Rise after being served a no-trespassing order.

• Randy L. Rayes, 50, of 801 S. Kosciusko St. was arrested about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday on a charge of violating an order of protection.

FIRES

• Fire extensively damaged a guest room Tuesday at the Comfort Inn in South Jacksonville.

South Jacksonville firefighters were called at 10:28 a.m. to a report of a fire in room 115 of the hotel. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke throughout the hotel. “The hotel’s sprinkler system extinguished the fire before we arrived,” Fire Chief David Hickox said. “The room was occupied, but the occupants had left to go shopping.”

Hickox added that Jacksonville firefighters used a dry chemical to douse some smoldering material on a table in the room. He said firefighters are not sure how the fire started, but they know it centered around the table.

The state fire marshal was called to do further investigation.
