Greenfield man is back
in jail after pursuit arrest
A Greenfield resident is in custody in Greene County after his arrest Saturday on numerous charges stemming from a police pursuit last month.
William L. Orr, 51, formerly of Greenfield, was arrested in Springfield on charges of criminal trespass to property, unlawful use of a weapon and aggravated assault. He was also arrested on a Greene County arrest warrant accusing him of violating the Sex Offender Registration Act by failing to notify law enforcement authorities of an address change, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer and felony driving while license revoked.
The warrant was issued after a Sept. 6 incident in which deputies from the Macoupin County Sheriff’s Department went to Orr’s residence to interview him for an investigation. Deputies said Orr left the residence in a pickup truck and led them on a pursuit along Illinois 267. Orr was reported to have tossed a firearm out of the window of the truck before abandoning the vehicle in a field north of East Roodhouse Blacktop and fleeing on foot.
Officers from the Greene, Macoupin and Morgan County sheriff’s departments, as well as Greenfield, White Hall, Roodhouse and Jacksonville police and Illinois State Police took part in a massive ground search but Orr was not located at the time.
