Beardstown business burns

Fire destroyed a commercial laundry building Monday in Beardstown.

Beardstown firefighters were called to WBS Inc. in the city’s industrial park about 4:45 a.m. Monday. On arrival, firefighters found the metal building engulfed in flames, Fire Chief Heath White said.

Firefighters were on the scene for more than two hours getting the fire under control. Arenzville and Rushville firefighters were called to help extinguish the blaze. White said no one was in the building when the fire broke out.

WBS is a commercial laundry facility that contracts with JBS Inc., the hog-processing plant on the east side of the city.

The fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.
