2 seriously injured in 3-vehicle crash
MOUNT STERLING — A Pennsylvania truck driver was cited after a three-vehicle crash Thursday that left two children seriously injured.
An unidentified 16-year-old Mount Sterling boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to Blessing Hospital in Quincy, according to state police. A 12-year-old girl who was a passenger in the car also was seriously injured and flown to Blessing Hospital.
Their conditions were unavailable Friday.
State police said the 16-year-old boy was driving his car east on U.S. 24 about 3:10 p.m. Thursday when he slowed to make a left turn onto County Road 910. A semitrailer being driven by Askhat Shermatov, 28, of Philadelphia did not slow and rear-ended the car, state police said.
The impact of the crash pushed the car into the westbound lane of U.S. 24, causing it to be hit by a pickup truck being driven by Brandon Gallaher, 37, of Mount Sterling.
Shermatov was cited on a charge of failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to state police.
