Sheriff seeking help in burglary case

CARLINVILLE — Macoupin County Sheriff Shawn Kahl is asking for help locating suspects from a residential burglary in Mount Olive on Tuesday.

About 11:12 a.m., deputies received a 911 call from a resident in the 4300 block of Two Mile Road in Mount Olive who said his house had been burgled. The homeowner said three people had fled from his residence. The homeowner said he chased two of them on foot, and they jumped in a dark blue convertible 128i BMW with a black top.

The vehicle was found at U.S. 66 and Wolf Road. The men fled north on U.S. 66 to Illinois Route 138, then west to the interstate. A deputy had the car stopped at one point, but the driver was able to take off again, almost running the deputy over, according to Kahl.

The men continued to Interstate 55, heading south. Law enforcement officers pursued them south on Interstate 55 until the men made it to Interstate 270. The car went west on I-270 and eventually into Missouri.

The dealer plates were discovered to be stolen from Laura Buick GMC in Collinsville.
